Example for a process where thermal energy gets converted into luminous energy (or radiant energy)?

It would be best if I can have a concrete example. Also, I would appresiate it if the example didn't have any intermediary steps (such as the thermal energy first gets converted into electrical energy and then that gets converted into luminous energy).
