Do you have to own a business to get a resale licence in california?

I am asking because i want to sell online but not through a business name. I want to do it through me personally. getting a business name might be something i want to do later down the road. i mostly want to buy things wholesale and then resell them. please give me links and tell me if this is possible and if not please give me other ways of going about this.
