What do you do when you dont have a stop sign, but the crossing street does?

Slow down for pedestrians and the idiots that blow through stop signs. There are too many people on the road who think they own it. So if it's like a 25 mph speed limit then slow to about 15(because you better be going the speed limit or below on your test). At a stop sign you stop at the line, or sign and if you can't see then you can inch up until you can see and STOP THERE before continuing when clear.
