Do nitrosamines form or degrade under acidic conditions?

This is part of a larger question I have asked previously. But I was told that nitrosamines survive in alkaline conditions but break down under acid conditions like the human stomach and that's how they damage DNA. Yet another source says that nitrosamines form under highly acidic conditions also like the human stomach. Can anyone shed more light into this?
